Covid 19 Additional Local Rules

Covid 19 Terms of Competition and additional Local Rules for Clwb Golff Abersoch

The R&A’s expanded guidance, which supplements the information contained in the Committee Procedures section of the “Official Guide to the Rules of Golf” means we are introducing the following local rules/terms of competition for 18 hole qualifying competitions until further guidance is forthcoming.

Entry into competitions
All entries into competitions should be done through Clwb Golff Abersoch electronic entry system and all entry fees paid by the same method.

Scoring
All scores should be returned electronically, players may enter their own score but submit electronic score confirmation from their marker. All cards should be submitted on the day of play failure to do so will result in a no return.

The Flagstick
It is required that players leave the flagstick in the hole at all times. Players are allowed to centre the flag stick in a safe manner which does not involve using the hand even when wearing a glove or using a towel. The centring of the flagstick is allowed while another player putts.(This may be desirable in windy conditions when the flagstick is leaning towards the player) Failure to comply General Penalty (2 shots).

Hole and Definition of Holed
The ball does not need to fall below the surface of the putting green to be considered holed.

The following are Not permitted
Treating the ball as holed when a certain distance from flagstick. Treating the ball as holed when it has bounced out of the hole for any reason.

Preferred Lies in Operation

While the course recovers from the reduced staffing levels during lock down and the long hot dry spell, preferred lies are currently in operation.

The normal 6” rule on Preferred Lies is not considered sufficient to give adequate relief and to avoid extensive areas of GUR Handicap and Rules recommend that One Club Length should apply and the Local Rule is-

When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less or identify a specific area such as 'on the fairway of the 6th hole', the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: Specify size of relief area, such as one club-length, one scorecard length or 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits:
Limits on Location of Relief Area:
Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
Must be in the general area.
In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.
